Maybe have kp or vp as a tie break or tweak the rules a bit, like you can't have the objective 12" from a table edge.
And Mike, I know you don't like Cap Control either but your 2nd round tie didn't prevent you from winning the tournament. All you had to do was win game 3 :)
This discussion should probably spawn an article about this.
I don't actually mind Capture and Control that much - I just don't believe that GW is better at writing missions than you guys would be, that's all. If everyone knows that Capture and Control is going to be a mission, then you need to make an army that can win it, or accept that you will tie, or take a big risk to try to win. Robert really didn't even try to win our game, which made it that much harder for me to do so. The fact that I don't know what I'm doing obviously doesn't help either.
In fact your winning or tying in round 2 ultimately didn't matter. You face Levi either way. Only a loss knocks you out. Robert playing for a tie only hurt him because the tie paired him down instead of up had he won.
And yeah Cap and Control does encourage a list that has some mobility. Robert's parking lot IG had a lone Vendetta and tons of foot troops. That kind of list construction doesn't help his chances for a victory in capture and control.
