Army: By Deamons Be Driven, Beckon the Call
It was extremely convenient that right after I decided to start up with Chaos Daemons as my next army, Games Workshop announces the next wave of Daemons will be arriving in August.
This just means I get to start thinking about how I can be creative with how I expand my force past 1500 points. Rumors have it that the next wave will include Fateweaver, The Changeling, Seekers, Horrors of Tzeentch, and a Plastic Daemon Prince. Of these, the Fateweaver, The Changeling, Horrors of Tzeentch, and the Plastic Daemon Prince interest me as possible inclusions for the Army expansion.
I love new models and this will allow me to extend into Tzeentch without getting too many more metal models. The Daemon Prince is interesting as a conversion opportunity for both my Chaos Space Marine army and maybe as a better looking, and plastic, Bloodthirster model. I do already own a Forgeword Khorne Daemon Prince, which looks incredible, so it will be hard to replace that with the plastic one.
At 1750, a decent expansion may look as follows:
HQ
Herald of Khorne (Juggernaut, Fury of Khorne, Unholy Might)
Skulltaker (Juggernaut)
Elite
5x Bloodcrushers of Khorne (Chaos Icon, Fury of Khorne, Instrument of Chaos)
4x Bloodcrushers of Khorne (Chaos Icon, Fury of Khorne, Instrument of Chaos)
Troops
8x Bloodletters (Fury of Khorn, Instrument of Chaos)
8x Bloodletters (Fury of Khorn, Instrument of Chaos)
5x Horrors of Tzeentch (Bolt of Change, The Changeling)
5x Horrors of Tzeentch (Bolt of Change)
Fast Attack
6x Flesh Hounds of Khorne (Fury of Khorne, Karanak)
Heavy Support
Soulgrinder (Tongue, Phlegm)
Soulgrinder (Tongue, Phlegm)
I avoided using Fateweaver for now, since I felt that using Soulgrinders, over Tzeentch Princes, would not maximize his value. As one can see, this is primarily a Khorne list, but I liked the idea of getting in a couple Bolts of Change coming form the Horrors to soften up a couple transports, in combination with the Soulgrinder, to give more valuable meat targets for the assault units. For the Soulgrinders, I was considering only taking the Tounge, but I figured there may be a few occasions where the mech targets are not as plentiful and having some decent Large Blasts will be good to have.
Scaling up to 2000 is proving to be more of a challenge for me. I haven't played Chaos Daemons enough to know whats going to work for me and what's just going to fall apart at 2000. However, just for the sake of throwing something out there, here is a pass at taking the above list and toughening it up for 2000 points and considering missions such as Sieze Ground and Capture and Control.
So for 2000, we have:
HQ
Great Unclean One (Breath of Chaos)
5x Plaguebearers of Nurgle
Fast Attack
6x Flesh Hounds of Khorne (Fury of Khorne, Karanak)
Heavy Support
Soulgrinder (Tongue, Phlegm)
Soulgrinder (Tongue, Phlegm)
From the 1750, I only added a Great Unclean One (GUO), with Breath of Chaos, and 5 Plaguebearers. I don't know if this is teh right call, but my thinking was the add some resiliency to the army for the higher point battles, thinking that some of my other troops might get wiped off the board and also require a much more aggressive play style. The Plaguebearers give me a good troop choice to camp the rear objectives, for a reasonable price. The GUO gives me an in your face threat that also has some potential to slow down transports, and crack them if they persist nearby for too long.
Sorry to use pictures of a model I have used recently, but I haven't had a chance to take more "good" pictures of my Daemons. New ones will be forthcoming as I develop this force though.
What you've used to convert this soulgrinder you shows in the pics?
